Another Successful Offer-in-Compromise

The client had incurred several tax balances from her side business as a masseuse. She was not making enough to keep the business afloat and pay her taxes, and she could not have additional withholding taken from her primary source of income. She reached out to Dickmann Tax Group to negotiate a settlement against the balances as she could not afford to pay them in full.

The original Offer filed was erroneously rejected, and we appealed the decision. Unfortunately, while the appeal was pending, the taxpayer accrued a new balance and defaulted the settlement proposal. We worked with the IRS and the client to correct the defaulted proposal and present new negotiations. And, after working through several issues with the IRS, we presented a new proposal for settlement. Unfortunately, once again the Offer Agent rejected the proposal on an unfounded argument. We appealed the rejection and pushed the matter through with the Appeals Office and local counsel and, after several deliberations, secured an accepted settlement for just slightly higher than our original proposal. Throughout our representation we prevented the client from receiving a tax levy or wage garnishment, and secured a tax debt settlement of over 70% the total balance due.
